* Bratislava, 11 May 1773 – † Buda, 11 February 1840 / physician, university professor ; ; Founder of a medical dynasty. In 1799 he received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Pest. From 1799 he was the chief physician of Esztergom County. He was a professor of physiology at the University of Pest (1808–1819), then at the University of Vienna (1819–1825). In the 1817–18 academic year he was the rector of the University of Pest, in 1825 he was the national chief physician, a member of the royal council of governors, and director of the medical faculty (1825–1840). As the national chief physician in Hungary, he ordered vaccinations against smallpox. He gained merit in overcoming the cholera epidemic of 1831. He traced the phenomena of life back to the physical and chemical properties of the organism. He attached great importance to mental phenomena in the origin and treatment of diseases. His significant works are mainly physiological and psychological. He was a friend and family physician of Count István Széchenyi. His son, József Lenhossék (1818–1888) and his grandson, Mihály Lenhossék (1863–1937) were also professors of medicine.
