All Saints' Parish Church of Kürti

Other - other

The church burned down in 1733, and the rebuilt church was demolished by the earthquake of 1755. The Roman Catholic church dedicated to All Saints that can be seen today was built later, probably on the site of the previous churches in Kürt. It underwent its most extensive renovation in 1928-1929, when it was expanded. The church has a beautiful Baroque baptismal font and some Baroque statues.

The name of the settlement comes from the name of the Hungarian conquering tribe, the Kürtgyarmat, and its first written mention dates back to 1075. In the Middle Ages, it was a place with a temple, and Pauline hermits lived here. 13th-century documents mention a church built in honor of Saint Thomas in Kürt. During the Turkish invasions, the village was destroyed. Later, it was resettled as the property of the Esztergom archdiocese.
