* Bán, September 25, 1765 – † Károlyváros, April 9, 1835 / school principal, geographical writer ; ; He completed his studies at the grammar school of the Order of the Pious in his hometown. From there he was transferred to the military educational institution in Senec, where he taught land surveying and agriculture. Later he went to Nitra, where he was active in land surveys and the determination of tax assessments. After completing his work here, he became a secular teacher at the Piarist grammar school in Privigye. In 1790–1794, as the principal of the model school in Bruck, he put the neglected institution in order. Later, he was entrusted with the orderly restoration of several other institutions. Due to his failing health, he retired and from then on devoted his time exclusively to literature and scientific work. He traveled a lot in Hungary, and on July 10, 1819, he also visited Ferenc Kazinczy in Széphalom. He spent his last years in Croatia, in Károlyváros. He was a very prolific author, dealing with linguistics, Greek philosophy, agriculture, topography, ethnography, economy, etc. He wrote most of his works in German. ; ; Main works: ; ; Topographical description of the Kingdom of Hungary and its incorporated provinces, in relation to the local and national culture, economy, industry, arts, crafts, manufactures and trade.
