* Nagymácséd, November 5, 1925 / geologist, university professor ; ; He completed his elementary school studies in his native village between 1932 and 1940, in 1942 and 1943 he studied at the civil school in Galanta, and in 1943 and 1942 at the commercial school in Érsekújvár. In 1944 and 1945 he was a prisoner of war in Germany. He returned home to his native village on August 11, 1945. One and a half months later, on September 26, 1945, he escaped to Hungary and completed his secondary school studies in Komárom there in 1946 and 1947. Between 1947 and 1949 he was a student at the Faculty of Economics of the József Nádor University of Technology and Economics in Budapest, between 1949 and 1953 he studied geology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Pázmány Péter University of Science (now ELTE) in Budapest and obtained a degree in geology in 1953. Between 1954 and 1993 he was an assistant professor, associate professor (1966), and professor (1975) at the Department of Petrology and Geochemistry at ELTE. Between 1966 and 1993 he was the head of the department, and in 1975 he became a doctor of earth sciences (DSc.). ; In 1993 and 1994 he was the Deputy State Secretary for Higher Education in the governments of József Antall and Péter Boross. Since 1996 he has been professor emeritus. His most important research: the trace element geochemical study of the Velence Mountains, during which he demonstrated gold enrichment in the surface rock metamorphism products. The topic of his candidate dissertation was the detailed petrological and volcanological processing of the northeastern and western parts of the Mátra. From the second half of the 1960s, his interest turned towards experimental igneous petrology, and the experiments carried out in the petrological laboratory he established contributed to the solution of numerous theoretical and practical problems. During the more than 20 years of operation of the laboratory, university doctoral dissertations dealing with melt structure were written, and Imre Kubovics also received the degree of Doctor of Earth Sciences based on the detailed processing of this topic. The experimental work led to practically usable results and international patents. In the 1980s, he also began to deal with the petrological-geochemical investigation of the domestic Mesozoic igneous rocks that had been less processed until then, which led to new results and the discovery of rock types previously unknown in Hungary. These researches significantly contributed to a more precise understanding of the magmatic development of the Carpathian Basin, the magma-tectonic situation, and the crust-mantle relationships. Starting from the 1990s, he mainly deals with cosmopetrological research, during which he primarily carries out the petrological-geochemical re-examination of meteorites that fell in the Carpathian Basin (Kaposfüred – May 7, 1995, Kaba – 1857) and found using modern methods. However, his research work also extended to the study of cosmic microobjects, lunar rocks, and Antarctic meteorites (shergottite, ALHA 77005). He has published several English-language publications on these researches with co-authors. ; ; Most important awards: ; Outstanding employee of geological research (1972), ; Gold degree of the Order of Merit (1983), ; Pro Universitate Memorial Medal (1985), ; Albert Szent-Györgyi Prize (1995), ; Gold degree of the Apáczai Csere János Memorial Medal (1996), ; Middle Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary (2000), ; Honorary doctor and professor of ELTE (2005), ; Honorary citizen of Nagymácséd (2005). ; ; Main works: ; Rock microscopy I. (Methodology of rock microscopy), 1992, ; Rock microscopy II. (Rock-forming minerals), 1993, ; General petrology (Petrology of Earth's belts), 2008.
