Ferenc Kubinyi

* Kóvár, November 22, 1836 – † Nagykürtös, July 14, 1903 / landowner, archaeologist, historian ; ; At the age of ten, he moved with his parents to Pest, where he continued his studies at home in the 4th grade of the Evangelical Gymnasium. In the few years following the Hungarian War of Independence in 1848/49, János Repiczky (1817–1855), a linguist, was his home tutor. In 1853–1855, he completed a two-year course at the Buda Polytechnic, and then took over the management of his father's estates in Kóvár. At that time, he began to deal more deeply with history and archaeology. In 1869, he made a major trip along the Rhine in Germany and returned home with many antiquities. He also collected in Hont County, primarily Stone Age relics, which were presented in a separate cabinet at the 1886 Budapest exhibition. In the 1870s, he was forced to sell his estates due to financial bankruptcy and moved to Albertfalva, where he founded a dairy. In time, his sister Krisztina managed to buy back the ancient estates and Kubinyi moved back to Kóvár.
