Master basket weaver

When I went to Uncle Karcsi Oláh and asked if I could ask him a few questions about his craft, he welcomed me very warmly and happily talked about weaving. Uncle Karcsi, a master basket weaver and broom maker, started learning the craft from his grandfather at the age of seven. He showed me a few pictures of where he is in Germany, because every year they held a so-called traditional fair, where people who are skilled in various crafts, both adults and children, came from neighboring countries. People were happy to come to him to learn the basics of basket weaving, or just to simply be interested in it. He was happy to visit the fair every year and was happy to welcome those who were interested. He told me how basket weaving actually takes place: First of all, the cane for the basket must be collected around November or December, when there is already frost. The best cane is the one that doesn't leak when you twist it. The canes are then sorted by thickness. The main branches are always thicker. The basket is woven by weaving two strands on the outside and two strands on the inside. The baskets can be made in different sizes and with decorations. The most important tools are a knife, pruning shears, a compactor and a rubber mallet. While he was telling me about these, his love for his craft emanated from him. He encourages me and everyone else to learn basket weaving, because very few people know how to do it these days. All you need to learn it is manual dexterity and a love for what you do, if you have these, then you can start learning. I would love to learn it too, but unfortunately I don't have manual dexterity, but I encourage everyone else to try it, because it's worth it. I feel like our village is special, because this profession doesn't happen much in the surrounding settlements either.
