* Hernádzsadány, August 21, 1912 – † Budapest, February 16, 2002 / geologist, geophysicist ; ; He obtained his degree in geology from the University of Budapest in 1927. In 1940, he wrote a study on the geological conditions of his native village and its surroundings entitled Geological description of the area around Hernádzsadány. He became involved in the exploration of Hungary's hydrocarbon resources as an employee of the Hungarian–German Petroleum Works Ltd. (MANÁT), which was founded after the suspension of the activities of the American-owned oil exploration company MAORT during World War II. Based on the Potsdam Agreement, MANAT came into Soviet hands and in 1946 the Hungarian-Soviet Oil Industry Co. (MASZOVAL) was established. Kőrössy continued to work here, and then became a researcher at the National Petroleum Industry Trust established in 1957. In the following decades, he achieved significant results in the exploration of natural gas fields and oil fields.
