Konkoly Thege Sándor

* Szántó172, 1888 – † Budapest, February 3, 1969 / farmer-animal breeder, university professor ; ; He came from a landowning family, his father was a lawyer. He graduated from the Léva gymnasium. He studied agriculture at the Academy of Agriculture in Magyaróvár (1910), and earned a doctorate in political science at the University of Budapest (1914). He served in the military on various battlefields during World War I between 1914 and 1917. From 1920 he worked as the head of the animal breeding department of the OMGE. He founded the National Association of Mangalica Breeders and the National Association of Cattle Breeders. Starting in 1921, he organized the spring breeding animal fairs at the new Kőbánya farm, and developed these into large-scale national agricultural exhibitions, also visited by foreigners. For more than two decades, he was a respected member of the National Veterinary Health Council. In 1936, he organized and then led the National Association of Dairy Farmers as its director. In this capacity, he dealt extensively with the affairs of Hungarian dairy farming and milk sales. In 1942–1944, he was a state secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, and at the same time an extraordinary professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine of the József Nádor University of Technology and Economics. From 1945 to 1950, he was a professor at the Department of Animal Husbandry of the University of Agricultural Sciences in Budapest, and taught the subject of animal husbandry policy at the College of Veterinary Medicine. From 1950 to 1957, until his retirement, he was a scientific associate of the cattle breeding department at the Animal Breeding Research Institute. In the 1940s, he played a significant role in the implementation of animal imports and the domestic organization of herd registration. He achieved significant results mainly in the field of cattle breeding. Several professional articles and studies were published. He edited the journal Köztelek, for about three decades the Köztelek Pocket Calendar, and the work Magyarország záváltőséstése I-IV.
