Gyula Konkoly-Thege

* Aranyosmarót, December 21, 1876 – † Budapest, December 6, 1942 / statistician, jurist, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. ; ; He was a scion of an old Hungarian noble family, his uncle Miklós Konkoly-Thege was an astronomer (Ógyalla). He began his secondary school studies in Bratislava, then graduated in Körmöcbánya. He earned a doctorate in law from the University of Budapest, and later a doctorate in economics. He began his career at the Central Statistical Office in 1898, and in 1907 he was already working as a senior officer. From 1921 he was primarily involved in the reorganization of agricultural statistical work, but he also contributed to the statistical foundation of the electoral reform. From 1929 he was the vice-president of the Statistical Office, and from 1936 until his retirement he was its president. In 1927, he became the executive vice-president of the Hungarian Institute of Economic Research. In 1928, he participated in the international economic statistics conference held in Geneva, and later regularly represented Hungary at international statistical and agricultural conferences. At the 1936 and 1937 sessions of the International Institute of Agriculture in Rome, he succeeded in having the agricultural statistical data collection system of individual countries partly developed based on his plans.
