Károly Klöckner's church organ

The oldest known organ in Pográny was a seven-stop organ. It was first mentioned in 1767, but it had an older origin. The church visitation record of that time also mentions the local organist, the 30-year-old Ferenc Török from Gúta, whose brother Miklós also often helped him. In 1798, another organ was mentioned, which had five stops and was brought here from Nagyszombat. In 1828, the entries also mention a five-stop organ, but its origin is linked to Kovácsfalva, so it must have been a newer one. We know about organ repairs from 1797, when the instrument was supplemented with new hoses, and in 1809, 12 forints were paid for a repair. The organ that still survives today was brought here in 1837-38. It was built by Károly Klöckner (Klökner, Klokner), a master of Austrian origin from Bratislava, and the organ was built with the 650 pengő forints of the Esztergom main chapter and the Nyíregyháza cathedral chapter. The master (according to the sources, a “decent organist from Bratislava”) began the work on October 16, 1837, and finished it the following year. It was first played on May 24, 1838, on Holy Thursday. The inscription on the organ builder reads: Carl Klökner, Orgelbauer in Pressburg 1838. However, this organ also needed repairs several times, in 1867 it cost 7 forints to repair, in 1889 it cost 5 and 10 forints. It was also repaired several times in the 20th century. First, it was repaired by József Meyer in 1923, and then a major repair was carried out in 1984. After the 1989 revolution, the church council decided to renovate the organ, which was no longer functioning. At that time, a smaller harmonium replaced it. In the nineties, the repair was carried out with public donations, the pipes were cleaned, and some were remade by the local carpenter János Andocs. The organ was put into use again, and the cantor was László Pindes. Around 2010, when the church was painted, the organ received new, brighter colors. Its current condition again requires complete renovation (not all of its registers work), and it is currently played by the local Tomasz Strzębała of Polish origin.
