* Bratislava, 16/26 January 1719 – † Vienna, 1 December 1792 / Jesuit teacher, physicist, geographical writer; ; younger brother of Ignác Klaus. He taught mathematics in Košice and Buda, natural science at the University of Vienna and the Theresianum in Vienna, and natural law at the University of Nagyszombat. His lectures and textbooks reflect the progressive outlook of his time. His main work, Philosophia naturalis seu Physica generalis et particularis (Natural Philosophy or Physics), was published in Vienna in 1756. He critically examined the different physical views of Descartes and Newton. His greatest merit is the introduction of modern natural science and the formation of the views of the next generation of teachers. The physical geography chapters in his work were at the European level of their time. Another work is Prima ac generalis philosophia…, 1755.
