* Bratislava, December 13, 1834 – † Budapest, September 2, 1902 / painter, graphic artist, art writer, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1874) ; ; younger brother of Károly Keleti. He probably inherited his artistic talents from his father, Károly Klette (1793–1874), court painter and draftsman to Palatine József. He studied law at university in Pest and Vienna, eventually dropped out and studied painting in Munich and then in Vienna. He played a major role in the formation of the Fine Arts Society. He was a member of the Kisfaludy Society from 1867. In 1871, on behalf of the Minister of Public Education József Eötvös, he organized the National Hungarian Royal Model Drawing School and Drawing Teachers' Training School, of which he was the first director. The most significant of his romantic landscapes are his works The Exile's Park and View from the Norma Tree. His rigorous, academic-minded art criticism was opposed to newer artistic endeavors. Because of his criticism, Szinyei Merse withdrew from the artistic world for a while and stopped painting regularly. He was also critical of Mihály Munkácsy. His works are owned by the MNG and the History Museum. ; ; His main works: ; Public art galleries as cultural factors, 1870, ; Károly Idősb Markó, 1871, 1897, ; Fine arts education abroad and its tasks in our country, 1871, ; The purpose, organization and curriculum of the Hungarian Royal Model Drawing School and Drawing Teachers' Gallery ; short sketch, 1879, Art Essays (part of his art criticism), 1910.
