John Karl

* Léva, September 21, 1891 – † Budapest, November 21, 1956 / Piarist priest teacher, ; professional writer ; ; He completed his secondary schooling in Léva, Vácott and Kecskemét, at the Piarist high school. In 1908, he became a member of the Piarist order in Vácott. From 1911, he studied geography and natural history at the University of Budapest, and in 1915, he obtained a teaching certificate and a doctorate. From 1915, he taught at the Piarist high school in Selmecbánya, Kolozsvár and from 1919, Budapest. In 1937, he became a teacher at the Piarist high school in Szeged, then again at the Kolozsvár, and from 1943–1945 at the Kecskemét high school. In addition, he taught at the Teacher Training Institute of the Catholic Civil Schools from 1922 to 1931. He also made geographical trips: he was a member of the Balkan research trip led by János Turzsa in 1916–1918, and of the Finnish travel group led by Count Pál Teleki in 1924. He published pocket atlases supplemented with statistical data several times, and also wrote geography textbooks for various types of schools. He also dealt with methodological issues in geography education. Between 1922 and 1944, he edited the journal Erdély, and in 1923 and 1925, the Földrajzi Közlemények.
