Charles Kanka

* 17 October 1817. Modor – † 1910. Bratislava, / physician, ophthalmologist ; ; Born in Modor. He completed his medical studies in Vienna, where from 1842 to 1848 he was an assistant to the then famous ophthalmologist and university professor of ophthalmology, Antal Rózsás, and at the same time assisted in the editing of the medical yearbook (Medicinische Jahrbücher) published by the latter. In 1848 and 1849. he served as chief physician and then as staff physician in the Hungarian army, first at the Görgey Corps, then in the hospitals of Szeged and Arad. In 1850. he was employed as a temporary national ophthalmologist. In 1864. he was appointed chief physician of the ophthalmology department of the Bratislava national hospital, and in 1882. its director. In 1888. he received the title of royal councilor. In 1892, he was relieved of his duties as director of the hospital at his own request, but he retained the leadership of the ophthalmology department.
