Jonas Ödön K.

* Košice, December 10, 1851 – † Budapest, May 10, 1933 / engineer, teacher at the Technical University ; ; His father, Alajos Jónás, was the scion of a Romanian family from the Great Plains, and was the chief forester of the city of Košice, but he died early, so the boy completed his studies with the help of his stepfather, Baron József König of Kronburg: elementary school and junior high school in Košice, then in Pest, and finally at the Royal Higher Real School in Buda. He received his diploma from the Budapest Technical University in 1872. From 1872 he was an assistant teacher there. In 1873 he was an engineer of the Tisza Rural Railway. In order to increase his general knowledge, he enrolled in the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the Budapest University of Science and Technology in 1875, and even took the exam to become a secondary school teacher in 1877. In addition to his work as a university lecturer, he also taught mathematics and graphical geometry at the VIII. District Real School in Budapest for five years. From 1883 he was a public full-time teacher of general mechanics and mechanical engineering, and from 1905–1907 he was the rector of the Technical University. His articles on mechanical engineering were mainly published in the Economic Engineer. As a member of several technical and economic boards and authorities, he actively participated in the administration of industrial affairs, and from 1881 as a member of parliament for the Vissó district of Máramaros county, he also participated in political life.
