Ipolyvarbó doll family in traditional costume
Other - other
In Ipolyvarbó, children as young as one year old were given adult-style clothing instead of long shirts. Men wore the widest and shortest linen trousers here until the 1940s. Their waistcoats were richly decorated, and the szakácská was even worn with breeches trousers until the 1950s. The headgear of young women was very provocative: the forehead band, or villuska. Women wore a brocade silk wedding scarf with a large fringe knotted above the ear, and new women wore a new bride's headpiece with artificial flowers and silk ribbons. Their long skirts were made of heavy cloth, plush and silk. The technique of this, which is a treasure, is known only to two people today: Erzsébet Pálfi and Szilvia Kois.
