The costume of Ipolykeszi was a transition between the old and new costumes of the villages around Ipolybalog. In summer, women wore white linen “circle shirts” with cut-out silk pruszlik and white embroidered or colored silk shawls. The skirt reached half-calf. It was usually “pentölt”. They wore 3-4 petticoats and silk overskirts. The latter were gathered in large pleats. This was complemented by a black szakácska. The girls combed their hair in a “dupét” style, braided it on both sides above the ears, and tied it in a ponytail at the back. The brides braided their hair in a “kéch” style, and put a “szarvaskán” on top, which they tied with a white embroidered “tilan” or patterned silk scarf. In winter, they wore a lined business card and an embroidered women’s ködmön. The men’s linen shirts were decorated with white embroidery on the front, as was the bottom of the linen trousers. The black chef's hat was worn with the ends rolled up. The cloth dress came into fashion after World War I. (Méry M. 1977.24.)
