István Horvath

* Makó, December 18, 1885 – † Ipolyság, June 27, 1941 / historian, teacher, archaeologist ; ; He completed his elementary and secondary school studies in his hometown. He received his doctorate in history from the Budapest University of Science and Technology in 1907. He participated in the archaeological excavations of Aquincum for five years, after which he worked as a teacher. First, he taught Hungarian and Latin, as well as history, in Trsztena, Árva County, and then from 1915 until his death at the Ipolyság State High School. When the upper division of the Ipolyság High School was closed in 1919 due to the change of empire in 1918, education was restarted there through his intervention. In addition to his teaching work, he also conducted local history and archaeological research in Ipolyság and its surroundings (Horvátin, Tompán and Ipolyhídvég). He summarized the results of these in his approximately 800-page work entitled Ipolyság Memorial Book. He was the president of several social and public benefit organizations (the Parish School Board, the local organization of the Hanza Cooperative Goods Center, the Catholic Boy's Association). He founded the Ipolyság Scout Association with his fellow teachers.
