* Csécs, 23 November 1847 – † Budapest, 8 September 1937 / physician, zoologist, entomologist ; ; He completed his secondary education in Košice, and obtained his medical and surgical degrees at the University of Vienna in 1872. In 1873–1874 he was the keeper of the Hungarian National Museum in Budapest, and in 1875–1880 he worked as a district physician first in Forró and then in Varanno. In 1881–1895 he was the head of the national phylloxera experimental station. Between 1896 and 1923 he was the director and keeper of the zoological collection of the MNM. The Hungarian Academy of Sciences elected him a corresponding member in 1877, a full member in 1894, and an honorary member in 1931. He was a member of numerous foreign entomological societies. He made great contributions to the fight against phylloxera (vine rootworm – Phylloxera vastatrix). He was one of the most significant experts on sucking insects. In 1876, he donated his collection of 42,000 bugs and his collection of 16,000 beetles to the Hungarian Museum of Natural History.
