Ignaz Hönig Jr.

* Csáb, around 1813 – † Bánya Beszterce, February 1848 ? / doctor ; ; Son of Ignác Hönigh the Elder. He earned his doctorate in medicine from the University of Pest in 1834. At that time, graduates were still required to write a dissertation, and Hönigh the Younger dedicated his Hungarian-language thesis, Rövid vázlata a kövérségnek, to the “Tekéntétes Nemes Honth. Vármegye Elkese Karainak és Röndeinek” (The Enthusiastic Corps and Orders of the Hont County), with the undisguised aim of gaining their approval for the medical practice to be carried out in Hont County. He was also appointed “honorary” chief physician, which meant that he did not receive any payment for his work. This situation was not satisfactory for him, so he first tried in Trenčín (unsuccessfully), then settled in Banská Bystrica and from then on he is listed in various sources as the chief physician of Zvolen County. In August 1842, he recorded the events of the third traveling meeting of Hungarian doctors and naturalists, held in Banská Bystrica. As László Kiss writes: Hönigh did not give a lecture, but thanks to his collection, the participants were presented with the “mineral and medicinal waters” of Zvolen County. We do not know what caused his early death.
