* Hlinsko, February 26, 1840 – † Bártfa, December 2, 1907 / engineer, cartographer ; ; He completed his studies in Prague and in 1857, at the age of barely 17, he arrived in Hungary as a cadastral engineer, where he worked in the region beyond the Drava. In 1870, he joined the cartography department of the state printing house and gradually rose to the top of the ranks. He retired in 1897 and settled in Bártfa. According to one of his admirers, he did the most for Hungarian cartography after János Lipszky (1766–1826) and Lajos Schedius (1768–1847). He produced about 150 maps. One of the most significant is the “Administrative Map of Hungary 1:900,000” published in 1888. In 1895 he compiled the agricultural map of Hungary, and in 1901 the “Administrative and Transport Map of Hungary and Croatia”. He prepared the map of Budapest and Pest County, and contributed to the drawing and publication of school atlases. He supervised the printing of the longitudinal section of the Hungarian section of the Danube drawn by the Italian engineer Enea Lanfranconi (1850–1895) working in Bratislava. As a pensioner, he began the implementation of the “Great Hungarian Atlas” edited by the Geographical Society.
