Antal Hodinka

* Ladomér, 13 January 1864 – † Budapest, 15 July 1946 / historian, university professor, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1933) ; ; He graduated from the Royal Catholic Gymnasium of Uzhgorod in 1882, and then studied theology in Uzhgorod and Budapest. From 1888 he worked at the National Széchényi Library, then was a fellow at the Austrian Historical Institute in Vienna. In 1891 he earned a doctorate in Slavic philology, Hungarian history and diplomas at the Budapest University of Science and Technology, and then a theological diploma in 1896. Between 1892 and 1906 he was an archivist and librarian in Vienna. In 1905 he obtained a private teacher's qualification in the subject of Hungarian-Slavic relations at the Faculty of Humanities of the Pázmány Péter University of Science and Technology in Budapest. From 1906 he was a professor at the Bratislava Academy of Law, and from 1916 at the Bratislava Elisabeth University. In 1920, when the university was moved to Pécs, he also moved first to Budapest, and then to Pécs in 1923, where he taught at the university. He was dean in 1926/27, and rector in 1932/33. He retired in 1934 and moved to Budapest. In 1941–1943 he was the first president of the Transcarpathian Scientific Society. The main areas of his scientific work were: 1. the history of Slavic-Hungarian relations, 2. the history of the city of Pécs, 3. the ecclesiastical and secular history of the Transcarpathian Ruthenians. He was the most significant researcher of the Ruthenians in Hungary.
