* Kiszucaújhely, October 25, 1891 – † Bratislava, November 10, 1973 / mathematician, college teacher ; ; He began his school studies in his hometown. He graduated from the state Royal High School in Žilina in 1911. That year he won the national mathematics student competition. His mathematics teacher was Lajos Erdős (1879–1942), the father of the world-famous mathematician Pál Erdős (1913–1996). He began his higher education at the University of Budapest, and even made a short study trip to France, but after the outbreak of World War I he was drafted into the army and was taken prisoner by the Russians in 1916. He visited Siberia, the Far East, Japan, India, Ceylon, and South Africa. He returned home at the end of 1920 and became a substitute teacher at the Léva Gymnasium. In the 1925/26 academic year, he finished university in Brno and then became a teacher at the Érsekújvár Gymnasium. In 1932, he moved to Bratislava and taught at the Pedagogical College in Bratislava between 1947 and 1959, and from 1951 also at the Hungarian department. He trained many distinguished mathematics teachers, including György Oláh (1940–2012), a teacher at the Komárom Gymnasium and then the Industrial Vocational High School, and József Mészáros, a teacher at the Galanta Gymnasium. According to Gyula Radnai, his students unanimously praised his professional knowledge and deep humanity. The development of his scientific career was hindered on the one hand by the World War and on the other hand by the time-consuming work of a secondary school teacher. He had thorough knowledge in many fields (in addition to mathematics, he also studied biology, history, and physics). He spoke and translated many foreign languages.
