John Hetenyi

* Ekel, July 26, 1786 – † Ekel, July 26, 1853 / Reformed pastor, philosophical writer, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences ; ; His father was a Reformed pastor in Ekelen. Hetényi studied philosophy and theology in Komárom, Bratislava, and from 1802 in Debrecen. He became a teacher in 1811. In 1814, he studied theology, Asian philosophy of religion, philosophy and physiology at the University of Göttingen. He also spent a few months in Vienna, and in 1823 he was appointed professor of dogmatics at the Vienna Protestant Institute, but this position was suspended due to the small number of students. After his father's death, he became the pastor of his native village and served in this capacity until his death. He was awarded several academic prizes for his philosophical, historical and economic work. He worked on the creation of a specific “national” philosophy, but his work remained in manuscript. He emphasized the role of harmony instead of the movement of opposites, and proclaimed the need for social equalization. The Hungarian school in Ekeli has been named after János Hetényi since 2003.
