* Koss/Galicia, June 8, 1823 – † Budapest, June 3, 1903 / smelting engineer, academic teacher ; ; He completed his studies at the University of Lemberg, then at the Academy of Selmecbánya. In 1847 he entered the state service. Between 1851 and 1856 he worked first as an assistant teacher and then as a substitute teacher at the Academy of Selmecbánya. From 1858 he served at the Szomolnok smelter. From 1870 until his retirement in 1884 he was the head of the chemical analysis office in Zalatná. He is credited with inventing several metallurgical processes that were very significant in their time. In Zalatná he invented an economical process for extracting the gold, silver and copper content of ores that also utilized by-products, for which he obtained a patent covering the whole of Europe. He also developed a new process for the large-scale production of tellurium metal from Transylvanian tellurium ores.
