* Poprad, July 5, 1886 – † Toronto, November 16, 1959 / zoologist, university professor ; ; He earned his teaching and doctorate degrees at the University of Budapest. From 1910 he was an assistant professor at the zoology department. In 1911 he worked at the Helgoland zoological station, and in 1912 and 1914 at the Naples zoological station, mainly dealing with regeneration research. He served as a soldier during World War I. From 1918 he worked at the MNM Zoo. In 1925 he became a private teacher of fish economics at the Budapest University of Economics and the head of the MNM's Balaton biological station in Révfülöp, and in 1927 he became the first director of the Tihany Biological Institute. From 1929 he lectured on zoology at the University of Debrecen, and from 1933 as a professor. In 1941–1944, he was the head of the Institute and Museum of Zoology at the University of Cluj-Napoca, and from 1945 until his retirement (1950) he was again a professor at the University of Debrecen. In 1957, he emigrated to Canada. His scientific work primarily covered the fields of hydrobiology (especially that of Lake Balaton), ichthyology and zoological systematics. He also dealt with the origin and history of Hungarian domestic animals.
