Drive Lajos

* Igló, October 27, 1866 – † Budapest, December 1, 1933 / geographer, cartographer, general ; ; He completed a senior officer course in the Hungarian Armed Forces in Budapest, as well as the topography course of the Geographical Institute. In order to deepen his professional knowledge, he also made a study trip to the USA. Between 1895 and 1919, he worked as a teacher at the Ludovika Academy, later becoming the head of the State Cartographic Institute established at that time and playing a major role in the creation of independent Hungarian military cartography. He was the publisher of the so-called angel maps. He was retired in 1925 with the rank of major general, which was due not only to his age but also to his involvement in the franc counterfeiting scandal (the counterfeit banknotes were designed in the institution he led), and he was even imprisoned for a short time in 1926. His younger brother, Béla Hajts (Igló, 1872 – Igló, September 11, 1926) was a teacher, cave and Tatra researcher, and head of the Igló Department of the Hungarian Carpathian Association. Under his leadership, numerous tourist trails were made safe and shelters were built. He himself popularized the cause of Tatra tourism in articles illustrated with photographs.
