* Bratislava, February 21, 1826 – † Vienna, May 1/2, 1878 / agriculturalist, professional writer ; ; After graduating from the Bratislava Law Academy (1845–46), he studied at the Magyaróvár Economic Institute in 1847–1848, then became an assistant teacher there in 1851, and a full teacher in 1853: he lectured on mathematics, geometry, botany, and plant physiology. In 1869, when the institution came under the jurisdiction of the Hungarian Ministry of Public Education and Religious Affairs, he, like other teachers with Austrian sympathies, was transferred to Austria. He was the head of the silkworm breeding experimental station set up in Görz, and then a teacher at the Vienna Agricultural College (Hochschule für Bodenkultur). He advocated the promotion of silkworm breeding. He successfully fought against diseases of the silkworm. He introduced the cultivation of soybeans in Europe.
