Gútai Country House

The more than one hundred-year-old building is a significant monument of our folk culture, as the mud and clay houses are distinctively folk-like. The former owners of the Country House were the Kondé family, who once lived in Pitvaros, who later settled in Szeged. In 1947, they were forced to leave their home during the deportation. The displaced family was replaced by Slovaks who voluntarily moved from Hungary. The Slovak family had more than 10 children and heirs. None of them had enough wealth to buy the house and pay off their siblings. In 1992, the first freely elected mayor of the town of Gúta, Imre Harsányi, decided to buy it for the town. The building, so typical of this region, had suffered from time. The huge cracks were pulled together with steel wires, and the town's masonry team plastered both the inner and outer walls. ; In the spring of 1994, the city government made the previously empty country house available to the League of Hungarian Women. MAL is a civil association founded in early 1992, an independent, voluntary organization of girls and women living in the Slovak Republic. The organization's main goals include protecting the interests of the family and supporting youth, but their work also places great emphasis on preserving traditions. To this day, these women, their families and their helpers carry out the tasks around the country house. If necessary, they whitewash, take care of the garden and the flowers and trees there. ; The renovated country house has become a home for various events, performances and summer creative camps, and the people of Gúta working there have created a small island of community life and culture. In recent years, a filagory and a stage were built in the yard, and a búboszménce was built, in which folk-style breads, cakes, and lángos are baked. The oven was built in true Gúta style. In addition, a clay-burning oven was built for summer campers. ; In 2012, the renovation of the main building of the country house began, which took almost two years, but was successfully completed by the end of July 2014. A few years ago, the result of a successful tender submitted to the Rákóczi Association was a new roof, and the city took on the external renovations. Thanks to the continuous renovations and beautifications, generations are growing up in Gúta, so that in the summer, the tradition of ancient crafts is cultivated in craft camps in the yard of the country house, and during the evenings of the country house, prominent representatives of science and art, literature, and religion are given space to spread knowledge.
