Gútai Ship Mill

The Gúta Ship Mill in southwestern Slovakia is the last example of a floating water mill and the only ship mill in Slovakia. The mill houses the Water Mill Museum. ; The water mill is located on two parallel boats and moored to the shore on the backwater of the Danube. The boats are larger than the originals. The reconstructed replica of the mill was built in the Komárno Shipyard in 1982, based on the former Radvaň nad Dunajom ship mill. ; Today, the mill is theoretically operational, but in reality it is not operational due to the still water in the backwater. The object also contains some components of the original mill, which can be viewed within the framework of a small historical exhibition. An interesting example is the petrol generator from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, which resembles a small locomotive and is said to be one of the first mechanisms in the world thanks to which fishing nets were manufactured by machine. ; The mill has a solid structure to withstand spring ice waves and a hundred-year-old water. The road to the mill is via an 86-meter-long bridge, which is the longest wooden bridge in Europe. The mill is located on the popular Little Danube waterway. The branch of the Little Danube is blocked here on both sides, so the mill cannot be approached by water. ; The mill is part of an area with numerous technical monuments, including the "Krčma u Mlyna" (Mill Tavern), which offers the opportunity to relax and refresh, and attracts attention with its unique selection of herbal liqueurs, among other things. Throughout the summer season, numerous cultural and gastronomic events take place, including eco-camps for schools.
