Come and play corn! (folk game)
Other - other
When I was a child, we used to play this game on the oiled plank floor, next to the iron stove with coal, in the school in Nemesradnót. I remember the characteristic smell of the classroom and the joy of playing together. We couldn't wait for recess so we could sit in a circle and play. It was quite a struggle to master the skill of picking up the corn wreaths (see the photos for details). Maybe this is where the saying comes from: "I won't play corn with you!", because I don't have that much time or patience for it?! However, anyone who manages to go through the classes will never forget it!!! Let's see! ; ; We string a small wreath of fifteen corn kernels onto thick thread with a needle. We tie the end tightly into a knot. We repeat this four more times, so we get 5 wreaths. We will play with these by taking some in our palms and throwing them all on the table. The wreaths are placed randomly. ; ;
1st class: We take one of the 5 wreaths in our palm. We throw it in the air and at the same time we deftly and quickly pick up 1 wreath in our palm, then we catch the thrown wreath (so we have 2 in our palm). Then we throw the first one in the air again and pick up the next one, then we catch the thrown wreath (3). So, pick up the wreaths one by one. If we have picked them all up and the thrown wreath did not fall apart, we can continue in class 2. ; ;
; ; Class 2: We throw the corn apart and take one in our palm again. Now pick up the corn wreaths two by two and skillfully catch the thrown wreath as well. If we manage to pick up the corn wreaths both times without dropping the one we threw, we move on to the third class. ; ;
; ; Class 3: We throw them up, pick up 3 at a time, catch them. We throw them up, pick up 1 and catch them. If we succeed without error, we move on to class 4. ; ;
; ; 4th class: You throw it up, pick up all 4 at once and catch it. If you succeed, you have completed the first school of corn picking and you get 1 point. Then you can start over for the next point. If someone makes a mistake, they must pass the wreaths to the next player. They can continue when the corn is returned to them and they can continue from the class in which they made the mistake. There can be any number of players, they just have to sit in a circle. The game can be interrupted and continued at any time. If the players agree on the final time, the one with the most points wins. ; Have fun!
