Mihaly Gorcsos

* Debrőd, August 7, 1923 – † Košice, January 21, 1999 / local historian, ethnographer ; ; He graduated from the Košice Commercial High School in 1944, then graduated from a two-year commercial college in Budapest in 1949. He earned a Hungarian teaching diploma from the correspondence department of the Pedagogical College in Bratislava, and in 1979 he received a doctorate in ethnography from ELTE in Budapest. He worked in various economic organizations, industrial companies and offices, and in addition to this work he dealt with ethnographic collecting and local history. His doctoral dissertation was his only book-length work (Debrőd történeté és népi közöszálloda, 1979). He published the results of his research, as well as his popularization and cultural history writings, mostly in the Bratislava Hétben and the Hungarian journal Honismeret. He was one of the founders and president of the Batsányi Circle in Košice from 1965 to 1976, for which he collected the material for its memorable yearbook (Yearbook of the Batsányi Circle in Košice 1965–1968).
