In 1858–1862, he studied at the Mining and Forestry Academy in Bánya Selmec and obtained a mining engineer's diploma. In 1862–1864, he worked as an employee of the Mining and Livestock Directorate in Cluj-Napoca at the Kudžir and Sebeshely ironworks. In 1864–1866, he deepened his knowledge at the Geological Institute of the University of Vienna. He also visited Bohemia and Prussia to study the ironworks there. He then joined the Govasdia ironworks as a candidate for a mining officer, but was also entrusted with the management of the Gyalár iron mines and the Zsilvölgy coal exploration. In the summer of 1867, he participated in the geological survey of the Tokaj, Nyíregyháza and Dorog areas with the Viennese geologists. In 1868, he developed the design of the large-scale ironworks to be built in Vajdahunyad. In 1871, he was appointed mining geologist for the district of the Máramor and Nagybánya mining directorates. Here, in 1873, he prepared the mining geological map of the Máramor treasury mining (which remains a manuscript) for the then Vienna World Exhibition. In 1879, he received the title of mining councilor, and in 1880–1883, he was the mining geologist of the Selmecbánya mining district.
