Gerevich Emil

* Kovászó, Bereg County, December 11, 1854 – † Košice, December 24, 1902 / mathematician, principal of the Košice Higher Real School ; ; In Budapest, he studied mathematics and natural sciences as a candidate teacher at the University of Science and the University of Technology. In 1876, he was appointed as a teacher at the Lower Lendava Civic School, and in 1877 as a regular teacher at the Máramarossziget Higher Girls' School. In 1885, he became principal of the Bánya State Higher Girls' School, and from 1891, principal of the Košice State Higher Real School. In the meantime, he obtained a secondary school teacher's certificate in quantity and natural sciences. He defended his doctoral dissertation on descending continued fractions at the Hungarian Royal Franz Joseph University of Science in Cluj-Napoca, which had been operating since November 1872, in 1885. This work, which he published in Máramarossziget, is still considered important in international mathematical literature today.
