Between the two wars, radio stations regularly played his works, but during the real socialism he was subjected to political persecution due to his German origin. He was forced to emigrate and spent the rest of his life in Switzerland. He died at the age of 54. His remains rest in Bratislava, the tombstone in the Keszmárk cemetery is only symbolic. In 2018, a memorial plaque was placed in memory of Ernő Genersich on the wall of the Keszmárk Lutheran Lyceum.
