* Bratislava, April 21, 1783 – † Vienna, November 6, 1855 / writer, literary popularizer, ; folktale collector ; ; He graduated from university in Pest and Buda, and was a student of András Dugonics. In 1804, he got a job in Kismarton with Prince Miklós Esterházy, who took him to Vienna in 1808 and appointed him librarian in 1811. Here he became a German writer and translated and published the works of contemporary Hungarian writers in German. His greatest merit is the initiation of the collection of Hungarian folktales and the publication of the first collection. His folk poetry collections: Märchen der Magyaren, 1822, Sprichwörterbuch in sechs Sprachen (a collection of sayings and proverbs in German, Latin, Italian, French, English and Hungarian), 1830. His collection of Hungarian folk tales was published in Pest in three volumes by Ferenc Toldy and Gábor Kazinczy (1857–1860). ; ; His main works: ; The learned palóc or the letters of Tamás Furkács to his brother-in-law living in Mónosbél, 1803–1804, ; Gedichte, 1812.
