* Rajec, 17 June 1822 – † Budapest, 29 March 1895 / zoologist, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1873) ; ; nephew of naturalist Imre Frivaldszky (Bacskó). He completed high school in Trencsén, Nagyszombat and Léván, but took his high school diploma in Vác. He completed his university studies at the Engineering Institute of Pest, but from 1843 he worked with his uncle and also participated in the expeditions he organized (1844 – Turkey, 1846 – Balkans, Asia Minor, Southern Italy). In 1848 he obtained his engineering diploma, but did not practice. In 1852 he was an assistant keeper of the MNM Zoo, in 1870 he was the director's keeper. As a result of his tireless collecting work, the zoological collection was enriched with many arthropod species. His field of activity was fauna research, within which he mainly dealt with insects. Several insect species were named after him. He was the first researcher of Hungarian caves, and he also prepared the first bird summary. The Hungarian Academy of Sciences elected him a corresponding member in 1865, and a full member in 1873. He published numerous articles in domestic and foreign journals.
