* Bratislava, September 8, 1901 – † Budapest, July 15, 1979 / physician, rheumatologist, university professor ; ; His father, Jakab Fischer, was the chief physician of the Bratislava State Hospital. He began his studies in his hometown, but completed his final year of high school in Budapest in 1919, because his family settled in the Hungarian capital due to the change of empire. He continued his university studies in Vienna, where he obtained a medical degree in 1926. As a medical student, he worked at the Vienna Institute of Chemistry. Between 1926 and 1933, he was the head of the laboratory at the Aachen Institute for Rheumatology, then the chief physician. After the National Socialists came to power, he settled first in Vienna and then in Budapest with his first wife, and between 1934 and 1945, he became the head of the biological laboratory of the Chinoin Pharmaceutical Factory. His German wife died of cancer in 1938, and he remarried in 1940. In 1945, he briefly took up a position as a district physician in Jászjákóhalma. Between 1946 and 1952, he worked at the 2nd Internal Medicine Clinic in Budapest, was a private teacher in 1946, and an institute professor in 1950. Between 1952 and 1959, he was an associate professor at the 3rd Internal Medicine Clinic. From 1959, he was an associate professor at the 2nd Internal Medicine Clinic, then a university professor. His scientific fields of work are clinical protein chemistry, rheumatology, the pathology of occupational injuries, the physiology and pathology of the kidney, theoretical and clinical hepatology, and the philosophy of medicine. He has published more than 500 publications, numerous book excerpts, and 12 books in Hungarian, German, Russian, Spanish, and Romanian. He was interested in fiction, fine arts, but above all in philosophy.
