* Torda, June 18, 1837 – † Selmecbánya, June 29, 1916 / forestry engineer, academic teacher, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences ; ; He completed his studies at the Selmecbánya Mining and Forestry Academy in 1856–1859. From 1859 he worked in the forest administration district of Cluj-Napoca. The Hungarian language of instruction was introduced at the Selmecbánya Forestry Academy in 1867. Following this measure, many of the German teachers left their chairs. Károly Wagner became the forestry teacher, who invited Lajos Fekete, among others, to join him as a lecturer, and on October 11, 1867 he was appointed deputy assistant teacher and forest intern. After numerous independent writings and ten years of teaching activity, he was appointed a full teacher in 1878. From 1873, as head of the Department of Silviculture, he taught silviculture and forest protection, soil and climate science, forestry, hunting and landlord laws, and from 1891, forest planning, estimation, valuation, and forestry statistics. He also studied all branches of forestry in his professional works. He retired in 1906. He published his professional articles in the Forestry Journals and the Forestry Experiments journal, and was also a very prolific popularizing professional writer. Between 1867 and 1916, he published 172 publications. In addition to his work as a teacher and professional writer, he also showed interest in certain processes of practical forestry work. In 1888 he designed the “push-pull seed drill”, which later became widespread, in 1891 he made the “caterpillar glue spreader” ; and then he converted the inclined “handled crosscut saw” into a more manageable shape. Together with Otto Cséti, he designed and introduced a new “tree height measuring instrument”.
