* Ipolyvisk, April 11, 1842 – † Pannonhalma, October 27, 1909 / Benedictine monk, abbot of Pannonhalma, natural science writer, honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences ; ; He began his secondary education at the Komárom gymnasium, graduated from the Pannonhalma Benedictine Lyceum in 1858, and then entered the Benedictine Order under the name Lipót. Between 1864 and 1874 he was a teacher of Hungarian history and physics at the Pannonhalma Abbey Lyceum, and between 1874 and 1882 he was the principal of the Esztergom High School. In 1882 and 1892 he held the position of principal of the Szeged school district. From 1893 until his death he was the abbot of Pannonhalma. In 1885 he went on a major study tour to Bavaria, then in 1889 to Serbia and Bulgaria. He was also very prolific as a specialist and textbook writer. His mathematics, physics and chemistry textbooks were used in secondary schools, but he often dealt with issues of educational reform and educational organization. His most significant textbook is Natural Sciences (1871). It went through a total of eleven editions, the last in 1912. His simple language, excellent experiments, and knowledge of the latest results in physics made his work popular. At the 1882 Győr traveling assembly of the Hungarian Doctors and Naturalists, he gave a lecture on Poggendorf's double-division lightning machine. But he had already given a lecture on the history of alchemy at the Eger traveling assembly (1868).
