* Nyíregyháza, August 15, 1837 – † Selmecbánya, December 3, 1928 / mining engineer, academic teacher ; ; He began his studies in his hometown, and completed high school in Prešov. He studied mining at the Selmecbánya Mining and Forestry Academy. From 1859 he was an assistant professor at the mathematics department there, and from 1967 he was a full professor. In 1872 he took over the management of the mechanical engineering department. From 1876 to 1892, until his retirement, he was the director of the Academy. Afterwards, he was a member of parliament for Selmecbánya. Between 1881 and 1892, he edited the Mining and Metallurgical Journals. He lectured on mathematics, mechanics and mechanical engineering. He played a significant role in the development of mining and related sciences and in the development of Hungarian technical language. He holds several mining, metallurgical and chemical patents, and his literary activity is also significant. He was the first in Hungarian technical literature to deal with the calculation of gears and their simplification. Together with his classmate, Vilmos Sóltz (Svedlér), he invented a high-performance lighting gas generating device, and with István Schenek, an accumulator (Farbaky–Schenek-féle accumulator, 1885). Their study on this (On Electric Batteries, Mining and Metallurgical Papers, 1885) was awarded the Marczibányi Prize by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. After his retirement, he actively participated in economic life and made great contributions to the development of mining and related industries.
