* Selmecbánya, 17/21 May 1857 – † Budapest, 30 May 1913 / metallurgical engineer, academic teacher ; ; His father, Gusztáv Faller (Gölnicbánya), was a teacher at the Selmecbánya Academy. He completed secondary school in his hometown and in Košice, and from 1875 he was a student at the Selmecbánya Academy, where – after completing his internship – he took the state examination in metallurgy in 1881. From 1882 he was a scout and smelter officer at the Selmecbánya silver smelter, but at the same time he was also a lecturer at the Academy until 1891. During his study tours he became acquainted with metallurgical smelters and metallurgical institutions almost all over Europe. The four-volume metallurgy handbook of the thoroughly prepared professor, who was constantly expanding his horizons, was the first work of its kind published in Hungarian, and it served as a textbook and specialist book for this subject for half a century. The change in professional language was clearly shown in this work by the fact that, next to every new Hungarian technical term, he also included the German version in brackets that was in use at the time. The latest technological solutions can already be found in his work. In addition to this main work, the richness of his professional literary work is also marked by 14 further publications, most of which were published in the Mining and Metallurgical Journals. Among these was a metallographic study dealing with non-ferrous metals, which popularized this subject, which was almost unknown in scientific life at the time, and highlighted its usefulness, and he was the first to deal with aluminum. He significantly improved the teaching tools of this subject and expanded the program of the traditional two-week “big practice” for students. ; ; His main works: ; Handbook of Metallurgy I–IV., 1896–1904, ; Studies in the Field of Metallography, 1903.
