Here, among others, he was taught by Ákos Frigyes Hazslinszky (Késmárk). He participated in the 1848/49 War of Independence, then became an educator, and from 1850 a high school teacher in Osgyán. In 1854, he studied physics, chemistry, geology and mineralogy at the University of Vienna. After the merger of the Osgyán and Rimaszombat high schools, he worked in Rimaszombat between 1854 and 1897: he was a teacher and later the director of the high school. He was one of the founders and between 1860 and 1890 he was the caretaker and teacher of the Rimaszombat High School for Girls. He was active in several scientific and cultural associations, and was also one of the founders and director of the Gömör County Museum91. Already during his time in Osgyán, he established the herbarium, which later became the basis of the natural history collection of the Rimaszombat Gymnasium. He collected not only plants, animals, minerals and rocks, but also ethnographic objects, customs and legends, and songs related to various holidays. He also conducted regular meteorological observations. His flora works, although the result of diligent collection, also contain many erroneous data. At the same time, he systematized them in an exemplary manner and, together with the pieces of his other types of collection work, they formed the basis of the Rimaszombat Museum collection. He regularly wrote popular articles, editorials and notes for contemporary newspapers (Hont, Politikai Ujdonságok, Gömöri Közlöny, Rozsnyói Híradó, Gömör-Kishont, Magyar Nyelvőr, etc.); ; His main works: ; Rimaszombat viránya, 1858/59, ; Elements of botany (textbook), 1865, ; Gömör megye viránya, 1867, ; Natural conditions of Gömör-Kishont county (In: Borovszky S.: Magyarország vármegyéi és városai.
