* Zsigárd, March 2, 1868 – † Zalaapáti, August 17, 1947 / Benedictine monk, cultural historian, university professor, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1905) ; ; Student at the Benedictine Teacher Training College in Pannonhalma in 1887–1890, and at the University of Budapest in 1890–1892. He earned a doctorate in humanities in 1892, and a teaching certificate in history and Latin in 1893. College professor in 1892–1910, then archivist and chief librarian in Pannonhalma, from 1911 university professor of Hungarian cultural history in Kolozsvár, then after the change of empire in Szeged between 1921–1938. Rector of the University of Szeged in 1936–1937. In 1938–1947 he was a retired university professor in Zalaapáti. He mainly dealt with medieval Hungarian cultural history. From 1898 he edited and partly wrote the series History of the Order of St. Benedict of Pannonhalma. He had a heated debate with Károly Tagányi (Nyitra) on the issues of social history in the Árpád era (Historical Review, 1913–1916). The Hungarian Academy of Sciences elected him a corresponding member in 1905.
