* Selmecbánya, September 1, 1727– † Bánya Besztercebánya, April 17, 1773 / Jesuit missionary, traveler to America ; ; He studied with the Jesuits in Nagyszombat, then joined the order. In 1749, on behalf of his order, he traveled to South America, proselytizing among the Moxo Indians in Peru (in the northern part of today's Bolivia) for 20 years. In his Latin-language work, he was the first to describe the geographical, botanical, zoological and ethnographic conditions of the then completely unknown region, supplementing his data with a detailed map.
