* Sajógömör, October 14, 1952 – / physicist, university professor, associate member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences; ; His family has roots in Gömörhorka, his father was also born there, but his mother was from Sajógömör and lived in this village with her parents for a while, then moved back to Gömörhorka and started attending school, he finished primary school in Pelsőc, he graduated from the Tornalja high school in 1971. He obtained a research physics diploma from the ELTE TTK in Budapest in 1976. In 1977 he became a colleague at the SZTA Research Institute for Materials Structures in Košice. First in 1987, then in 1989–1990, he went on a study trip to West Germany (Stuttgart – Max Planck Institute, Alexander Humboldt scholarship), later he visited London (Queen Mary University), Petten in the Netherlands and Sibersdorf in Austria. He became a doctor of physics in 1995. From 1996 he was an associate professor at the Technical University of Košice, from 2004 a professor, from 2007 a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His research field is the investigation of the material structure and mechanical (creep, high temperature, fracture, etc.) properties of silicon nitride-based ceramics, ceramic and nanocomposites, layered ceramics and ceramic coatings. So far, he has published nearly 300 scientific papers, is the author or co-author of 7 books. He has presented at numerous Slovak and international scientific conferences. In 2007, he also appeared in the program Mindentudás Egyeteme (University of Omniscience) on Hungarian Television. Between 1992–1995, and again from 2000, he was a member of the Scientific Council of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), and the Doctoral Council of Óbuda University. In 2005 and 2009, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences awarded him the title of Scientist of the Year. He currently lives in Košice, is the Deputy Director of the Materials Research Institute and the Head of the Department of Structural Ceramics and the Department of Nanostructured Materials. He is a visiting professor at Kepler University in Linz and ELTE in Budapest. He is a member of the editorial boards of several international journals (Key Engineering Materials, Structural &amp, Durability, Powder Metallurgy Progress, etc.).
