Nicholas Dubay

* Prešov, December 10, 1844 – † Budapest, July 1899 / doctor of medicine, specialist in metallotherapy ; ; His father, György Dubay, was an Evangelical pastor. He began his schooling in Košice, but lost his father early, so he was sent to the orphanage in Uzhhorod. He finished high school in 1861 and studied medicine at the university in Pest. Due to his financial difficulties, he joined the Order of Mercy and lived in Bratislava for a year. His superiors allowed him to finish university and in June 1868 he was able to receive his medical degree. He also obtained professional qualifications as a surgeon, ophthalmologist and midwife. In 1868 he became the chief physician of the Order of Mercy Hospital in Szepesváralja, and in 1870 he was entrusted with the largest hospital of the Order, which operated in Buda. After the death of the previous head of the order, Father Gelencsér, he became the superior of the order with whom he often came into conflict, so he first traveled abroad for medical treatment, then left the order and took up practicing medicine. He was the one who introduced and spread the healing with metals, metallotherapy, in Hungary. In 1875, he was the first to propose (unsuccessfully) the establishment of a medical chamber.
