From 1912 he was a student of the Sárospatak Ref. College and graduated in 1920. He obtained his iron smelting engineering diploma from the Sopron Mining and Forestry College (1925). He began his career at the Ganz Factory in Budapest, but soon returned to the college in Sopron, where he became an assistant professor in the mathematics department, and then from 1928 in the ferrometallurgy and calcination department headed by Ernő Cotel (Selmecbánya). From 1936 he taught calcination, and in 1940 he obtained a technical doctorate. In 1943 he was an extraordinary professor of the calcination department, and from 1947 he was a public regular professor. After the establishment of the Miskolc University of Heavy Industry, he became its teacher, founder, head and then director of the Combustion Technology Research Institute. With his work, he laid the foundations of Hungarian combustion science and developed its teaching methods. He wrote numerous textbooks, university notes and studies.
