He studied theology at the Presbyterian Theological Academy, the universities of Halle and Basel, and received his degree in humanities at the University of Basel in 1907. From 1907 he was an extraordinary professor at the Presbyterian Theological Academy, and from 1916 to 1919 he was a regular professor. From 1907 he was also an assistant pastor in Presbyterian. From 1919 to 1924 he was a professor at the Bratislava Theological Academy, which he had fled to Budapest, and from 1923 he was a public regular professor of the Old Testament at the Sopron Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Pécs. In 1930–1931, 1934–1935 and 1939–1940 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Theology. He retired in 1950.
