Danielik Nepomuk John

* Murányalja, 20 May 1817 – † Eger, 23 January 1888 / Catholic priest, writer, journalist, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1858) ; ; He began his studies at the Premontrean Gymnasium in Rozsnyó, completed them at the Central Seminary in Pest and obtained a doctorate in philosophy in 1836. From then on, he continuously wrote articles on various topics for contemporary newspapers. He was particularly noted for his ideas regarding the reform of education. Between 1839 and 1848, he was a teacher at the Rozsnyó Lyceum. In March 1848, he moved to Pest, where he became the editor of the newspaper Religio és Nevelés, and in 1849, he became its owner. Initially, he edited it in a spirit of loyalty to the Habsburgs, and after the failure of the War of Independence in 1848/49, he was even invited to the committee that managed the reorganization of Hungarian schools. However, under the influence of Zsigmond Báró Kemény, he gradually turned against the aspirations of the Viennese court and was sentenced to two months in prison in August 1851 for some articles published in Religio and the publication of the paper was suspended for a year, but it was published again between 1852 and 1855. Danielik also held various church positions during these years, and in 1858 he became a collaborator of the Pesti Napló. In 1861 he was appointed bishop of Pristina. Later he retired from public life and primarily dealt with editing and publishing books.
